About this Project

Project Description

In this project, our group redesign and build a website for professor Radu Teodorscu. We think that Professor Teodorscuā€™s current website is not as organized as it can be, nor is it visually attracted to many readers. The way it is presenting the professor's publications and presentations is very hard for readers to find the information they want. Our team is aiming at presenting the given information in a much clearer way.

Our team first recreated the front page, reorganizing the information that is on the current website. In the current website, the front page presents both the professorā€™s general information and his selected publications. We think that it is better to only show his general information and leave his publications for other pages. We used bulletin points to present Professorā€™s information for better readability. After looking through the information on his website, we separated them into publication, presentations, and research lab categories. The publication section on the current website is divided into four sub-sections including conference papers, workshop papers, theses, and technical reports. We kept these divisions and for each sub-division we created a table that clearly shows the author, title, year, and a link to the paper. Similarly, we created a table for presentations that shows title, location, time, and slides for each. The information from the research lab is also fed into a table that shows the date with achievement for the lab. Additionally, we created another page for research lab members using the information on the current website.

In general, we have created a table for each group of information. We think that a table can better show informationā€™s various attributes, resulting in better readability. We also kept all the links that existed on the current website.

Client Impression and Design

Our team aims at making a more vivid and technology-feeling client impression. We redesigned the web page with a better side bar and several top bars. Whatā€™s more, we also added a video to the home page. Importantly, our team added some effects of sliding when changing pages, which would probably improve client impression. To make the publications and presentations more clearer, our team divided those data into pieces and put the information into tables, together with hyper links if extra files or websites needed.

Aesthetics

The redesigned web page has a clear navigation. Unlike the original page, when clicking the research button, a new tab shows up and when click the home button again, a new tab of home page appears, which is strange. We redesign the buttons and the structure of the webs to eliminate those weird behaviors. The fonts used are most popular ones these days. And we adjusted the size of both words and images to improve the clarity. Being differently to the original pageā€™s borders and backgrounds, we made a better design for all the buttons and backgrounds. As mentioned before, images and colors are enhanced. Even a video is added.

Responsiveness is what we spent plenty of time on! By using the google inspect function, we adjusted our website to fit different scales. Full size, Ipad-size, Iphone-size are all satisfied. Users may try to adjust the scale to see what actually happens. Last but not least, our team kept all the information of the original page.

Style Decision

We have different group members working on different pages. But we try to keep the style for the whole project. Like what was discussed above, throughout the website, we use tables to organize different information we are given. We believe it offers better readability and is also more visually appealing to the readers. Also, the font, text size, and grid we use were discussed and we make sure they are the same on different pages.
